This scene is where the Rio Grande winds through Rio Grande Gorge State Park between Taos and Santa Fe. The rock mesas in this area look like giant man-made castles or fortresses. This sunset reminded me of the natural beauty of New Mexico and the sacred symbol of the sun for the Zia people. Four is a sacred number of the Zia repeated in the points radiating from the circle representing the four aspects of the compass, the seasons, the periods of each day, the stages of life and the sacred aspects one must develop.
