Quetzals are startling emerald jewels of the cloud forest in my native Costa Rica. Known for its majestic coloring and long feathered tails, quetzals are considered by many to be the most beautiful bird in the world. Their name comes from the Aztec word “quetzalli” who believed the creature protected them in battle.
